MBTA mTicket App Reviews

Somethings wrong

Did the update now its not working at all. The last version was fine. Somethings wrong and tech support so far has been of no avail. I like this app and hope it starts working again.

Was great until recent update

This was my go to app to check the schedule of my train, with clean UI, and updated schedules. The latest update now moves the schedule link off the home screen and uses a dated looking mobile website for the schedule.

Does not work

When I upgraded to the new phone it stopped working. I got an error saying "cannot connect to server". Emailed support THREE TIMES and heard nothing. It gets one star because the train schedule is nice to have.

Subway support would be nice

It was really easy to sign up, buy a ticket, and pay, but it would be nice it there was support for a mobile CharlieCard of sorts where you could pay for the subway with the app too, and not just the commuter rail.

Good but not in par

With major cities like London, Paris and Berlin. No live tracking of trains. No built in schedule. Its handy for quick tickets purchase, didnt fail once since I started using it 3 months ago.

Works half the time

Theres always a problem when you need to buy a ticket, mbta is the worst

Convenient but has glitches.

I love the convenience of this app. I can buy tickets to and from wherever I need, whenever I need. My only issue is with "round trip" purchases. Since downloading the app, Ive run into the issue where I attempt to purchase round trip tickets but instead of round trip it gives me two tickets from my origin to my destination. The worst part is, even though its the same distance and price just in the opposite direction, the MBTA conductors wont let you use the ticket. They are even labeled as "part of a round trip" but it doesnt matter. You cant return tickets or exchange them either so you end up spending MORE money on a new ticket. Then you have a limited time frame in which the other ticket can be used in before it expires. Its ridiculous.

Ok

After a few months of not using the app, my tickets expired. How is that legal? App does a poor job of showing relevant schedules.

Great app but...

I love this app and use it all the time but I hate how you cant multitask... Once you X out of the app and eventually go back into it the whole app restarts... Very annoying... Needs to be fixed, then it will be a perfect app

Buy single rides only

Buy tickets when you need them without waiting in lines at the station or paying the excessive surcharges on the train. But the app crashes - when it doesnt work you have to negotiate with angry conductors and you have to reload the app losing all the tickets you bought and didnt use. Use this but only buy single ride tickets so you limit your exposure.

Bugs to fix!

A lot of people are going to use the app while on the train where connectivity can be spotty. Recommend you cache as much station info as possible within the app. I cant use this app because you appear to have an imposed max limit on the payment name field for credit card. Its a very useful app. Please make it better! I will even pay a few bucks for it without the bugs above.

Home Menu Reset Needs to Stop!

Would be a great app if it didnt reset back to the home page every time you move away from it. Frustrating to rider & conductor. The app isnt bad - it is what it is, as Coach BB would say - only works for Commuter/Ferry system, as described. But its fast, allows you to select starting & ending locations in case you need the flexibility day-by-day, and is better than paper. Just make it multi-task ready, please!!

Total recall fail

I find it completely frustrating when I have gone through all the steps to find my schedule and am unable to minimize and reopen the app to the same page. Whenever I need to text or open another app and then refer back to the schedule, the app opens up to the home page, rather than staying on the last page I had open. I then have to redo a search for my schedule. The ticketing portion if this app works great, but thats it. Id rather open the schedule in Safari because I know I can minimize and refer back to it.

Worked great on my first try

I used this app today for the first time as I had to go into Boston. I had no issues what so ever. Everything went smooth with the app. In fact, even the gentleman collecting the cash helped me open up the tickets on my phone. Highly recommend! Its nice not having to deal with carrying cash. Made my life a whole lot easier. Not sure what the negative reviews are all about. Just follow the instructions and you should be all set.

SEVERELY FLAWED!!

I’m giving this app only 1 star because the only part of it I can use is the schedules, and I suppose that’s worth a star. I really wanted to be able to use this to buy tickets, but the app will not accept my email address because there’s a dash/hyphen in it. No, not some wacky character—just a standard dash, which can be found on any keyboard, even the one on this app!!! When I was having trouble entering my email, I reached out to the customer “service” email and some nameless person confirmed that the app will not accept an email with a dash. No apologies, no timeframe for when it might be fixed, nothing. I was told that if I wanted to use the app, I would need to use another email. I already have a valid email address, as evidenced by the fact that I received the T’s response via that email address! But no, I will need to open/manage a new email account in order to use the app. Exactly the level of service I would expect from the MBTA.

not bad and could be better.

integrate touchID. improve resumption of state when switching back into the app. provide a way to delete old credit cards.

Helpful for commuters

Helpful to check schedules, travel advisories/alerts, and buy tickets at the lowest possible rate. Its very nice to have the train schedule in my pocket at all times so I never forget it. Just wish I could save my favorite station. I noticed its recently been consistently shown as orange while all others are white, though, so seems like theyre working on this. Definitely helpful for all commuters.

Carnival of UX flaws

How many steps should it take to buy and activate a ticket? Two? Three? Try eleven -- and Im being generous! 1. Tap on Buy Tickets 2. Tap on the trip you took yesterday in Recent Trips. (If you never took this trip, insert 7 steps here. No kidding.) 3. Tap the One Way ticket type just like yesterday. 4. Tap the same card you used yesterday, duh. 5. Tap the CVV field. 6. Type the digits and tap done. (Is this one step? Im gonna give it to ya here, designers.) 7. Tap the Accept checkbox. (Really?) 8. Tap Continue. (Free step: Smile at the waiting conductor so he knows youre actually trying to buy the ticket.) 9. Tap Pay Now. 10. Tap on Go To Ticket (why oh why?) 11. Tap Activate Whoever designed this process should be working in insurance claims, because that industry is regulated to require such a convoluted transaction maze.

Worked great!

I bought round trip tickets to and from Boston in 45 seconds. The app is wet user friendly!

Worked well for a while, but…

For some reason it wont allow me to cross from one colored "T" line to another and create a schedule. I found a workaround that kind of fixed it, sometimes, but its not worth the trouble.
